Summary
Documents collected in the city were transformed into 68 paper creatures, that were later returned to their places of origin.
Description
On every journey through the city we are bombarded with written and visual information, deliberate expressions intended to inform, influence and direct. Kanslibyrån observes how the mass of information is getting denser. Like a celestial body that grows larger and larger, it increases its gravity, draws us nearer and weighs us down. The accumulated information has advanced far in its evolution, and thunders through our heads as a barely audible and yet deafening tone. But the flow of information is not neutral, it is an all-embracing scheme, that exhausts us, makes us vulnerable, susceptible and malleable.
In this flow, we are forced to navigate, using the synapses of our brains to filter and categorize everything unconsciously and put it into individually designed compartments. Here Kanslibyrån sees an opportunity to question and challenge, to create our own conscious order in the crossfire of different voices. The impressions becomes abstract components, which we organize and categorize in our own way, with a deviant logic. New life is born from the lifeless soup, new organic forms emerges, a wilderness is spreading. We transform paper to organic creatures and information becomes bodily once again. The project was carried out in Skellefteå 2010
